Train as a Lifeguard with ARC Certification in CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Waterfront Life-guarding, Standard First Aid, as well as Lifeguard Training.
Registration for the 2013 Lifeguard Training program has begun.
First Meeting & Tryouts:Saturday, February 2nd: 10:00AM to 4:30PM. Bring a swimsuit, swim-cap, goggles, towel and lock. (Screening can be waived for active swim team members.)
Lifeguard Training is a course which provides more comprehensive training for individuals aged 15 or older who wish to become a lifeguard at a swimming pool, lake, or non-surf beach. Participants in this course are required to pass a water-skills test prior to entry into the course.
Course Content Includes:
- Preventive lifeguarding skills
- Rescue techniques including swimming assists, use of rescue equipment, approaches, defenses, escapes, tows, and carries
- Procedures for handling spinal injuries
- Search and recovery with the use of mask, fins, and snorkel.
- Techniques for developing participant's speed, endurance, and proficiency in lifeguarding skills.

Prerequisites:
Minimum age of 15; Must be able to: swim continuously 550 yards via front crawl using rhythmic breading and breaststroke using pull breathe, kick, glide. Starting in the water, swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10lb object, return to the surface, swim 20 yards back with the object, and exit the water without using a ladder or steps, within 1 minute, 40 seconds; swim 5 yards, submerge and retrieve 3 dive rings placed 5 yards apart in 4-7 feet of water, resurface and swim 5 yards to the side of the pool.
