"Early Bird" High School Level Training Program

Part of BRAINS' summer offerings, the "Early Bird" morning swim program is a High School level training program intended for competitive high school swimmers. Highly skilled competitive swimmers entering high school in September are also be eligible to participate if approved.

Practice sessions take place from July to early August at Fort Hamilton High School on Mondays and Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, from 7 to 9 AM for five weeks - 20 sessions total. A typical 2-hour session would include a swimming workout of approximately 5,000 yards.

Applicants interested in joining this program must obtain Mr. Richards approval in order to register.

This program is for Intermediate and Advanced High School Swimmers.

Registration for 2011 Summer Classes  will  take place beginning Tuesday, March 15 that the Fort Hamilton Natatorium located on 83rd street between Shore Road and Narrows  and will continue during BRAINS' program hours on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 5:30 to 6:30 PM; Thursdays 5:30 to 8PM; Saturdays from 3 to 5 PM until further notice.

Cost: $295 - No further discounts are available. SORRY, CLASS FULL.

* All classes end five minutes before session end time to allow for safe transition between periods.

Enrollment will be limited to 25 swimmers in order to comply with the Department of Education’s regulations on pool usage.

Full payment, written approval from Coach Richards and parent’s signature required to guarantee registration.

Terms and Conditions:

No refunds after June 1st- All refunds are subject to a $25 processing fee.  Cancellations: Since our instructors, security and permit fees must be paid whether classes are attended or not, BRAINS cannot offer make-up classes, credits or refunds for any classes you may miss.  Because this is a subsidized program we will not offer make-ups or refunds should up to three classes have be canceled due to circumstances beyond our control. In the event that we cancel more than three classes we will offer a refund for the number of canceled classes that exceeds three. If major illness or serious complications make it impossible for your child to attend classes we will make every effort to fill the remaining classes with another child.  Should such circumstances arise and we can fill the slot, while we are not obligated to do so, we will consider your request for a refund or credit. If you seek such consideration you must submit this request in writing along with doctor’s notes and/or any other proof needed.

Please note: The FHHS pool is a competition pool, not a bathing pool – water temperature is cool. BRAINS does not offer refunds for variations in temperature or condition of the water or facility. Maintenance of the FHHS pool facility is performed by a private company under contract with the NYC Department of Education and is in no way under the control of the Bay Ridge Aquatics Institute, Inc.

Pool Status: OPEN

Access to the pool is through permit-holding communtiy-based organizations only; patrons should refer to their group's representatives for their particular schedules.

At All Times...

  • Parents must not leave their children without adult supervision within the facility.
  • Do not drop off children without certifying that your instructor or coach is on hand and that your program will be in session.
  • Parents must pick their children up at the end of their class. NYC School Safety policy requires that any child left behind at the end of his/her scheduled class be placed in police custody;  parents will then have to go the 68th Precinct station house to retrieve their child(ren).

Payment at Registration

In order to register for any of BRAINS' classes, payment in full must be made at the time of enrollment. We can not hold spots or accept registration forms without full payment.  (Completed registration form must be signed by a parent or guardian if the student is a minor.)
